MBA students gain valuable insights at alumni networking sessions for the Sustainable Decisions and Organisations module

Our MBA students recently had the opportunity to connect with alumni Adam Coventry, Zooey Zhang, Tamil Sevan Ramadoss, and Shawn Atkinson during a special networking session, where they gained valuable industry insights and career advice. Organised by the MBA Education and Student Experience team and Campaign and Alumni Relations Office team in Nottingham University Business School, the event highlighted the many opportunities available to enhance the student experiences beyond their studies.

The session concluded the Sustainable Decisions and Organisations module, led by Dr Niamh O’Sullivan, an Assistant Professor in Sustainable Business, in the Organisational Behaviour and Human Resources Management (OBHRM) Department at Nottingham University Business School. This innovative and immersive module adopts an experiential learning approach to sustainable and responsible business education.

Students adopt the role of business managers and leaders, developing sustainability strategies that align with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and create shared value for companies, stakeholders, and the environment. They present their strategies for board approval, preparing them for real-world corporate decision-making.

Renowned corporate responsibility and responsible investment experts Will Oulton and Alison Gardner provided expert critique and feedback, enhancing the module's impact and helping students improve their strategic sustainability management and responsible leadership skills.

A key feature of the module is its dynamic media engagement element, which involves students participating in a corporate sustainability/ CSR crisis management simulation.

Guided by experienced journalists John Ware, Quentin Rayner, and Ellen Manning, and supported by Professor Jeremy Moon, students drafted press releases and participated in simulated press conferences, developing their ability to communicate effectively under pressure.

To prepare, students receive media training as part of the MBA Accelerator Programme, which enhances core learning with practical professional development opportunities.

Networking with industry leaders

The networking session brought together media representatives, board panellists, and alumni, providing students with a valuable opportunity to engage with industry leaders and gain first-hand insights into sustainable business practices.

Through this interactive and hands-on approach, the Sustainable Decisions and Operations module continues to equip MBA students with the expertise and confidence needed to drive responsible business practices in their future careers.
