Nottingham master's students win global business competition
A team of Nottingham University Business School MSc students has won first place in the ultimate business simulation competition for global higher education institutions. The team of four, 'King of Glory,' competed with forty-five teams from fifteen institutions in seven countries to claim first prize in the SimVenture Evolve! 2024 competition.
The teams had to manage and build a virtual bicycle company using the business simulation platform, Evolution. The Nottingham team, Yixin Cai, Jinhan Zhang, Yichun Jiang, and Yanyu Liu, won the competition with a company valued at an incredible £30.75 million.
The teams implemented a wide range of strategies and tactics to build a successful business and the Evolve! 2024 winners were based on the highest company value.
Nottingham team member Yixin Cai said:
I came across the SimVenture system when I took Launching an Entrepreneurial Business as an elective course during my studies in Nottingham. In the classroom, I was able to apply the theories mentioned by my professor. I feel that we have shown the strength of the University of Nottingham and Chinese students on a global stage, and I feel very honoured to have been able to help the University win some accolades before I graduate.
The benefits of hands-on learning
SimVenture's education technology platform, Evolution, was developed to provide learners with immersive, practical experiences that develop critical business skills. This active participation boosts engagement by actively involving students in the decision-making process, so that learning is more enjoyable. Students also get immediate feedback on their decisions, allowing them to refine their strategies.
Glean sponsored the competition and the Nottingham team won £1000 to share between them.
