Nottingham University Business School's MSc Finance and Investment ranks among the best in the world

A masters programme offered at Nottingham University Business School has been rated among the best in the world by the Financial Times (FT).

In the 2024 Financial Times Masters in Finance (pre-experience) ranking, Nottingham University Business School has placed 54 overall and in the top ten of the UK-based business schools to be included.

Published on 17 June, the FT ranks the top 65 masters in finance programmes in the world that are aimed at students with little or no work experience.

Dean of Nottingham University Business School Professor David Park said:

“We are very grateful to all the alumni from our MSc Finance and Investment programme who supported us by completing the FT’s survey for this ranking. It is particularly gratifying that our alumni rate us highly for our postgraduate careers service team and our international alumni network as both are vital to our graduates’ career progress, and that the course is ranked in the top ten in the world for ‘overall satisfaction.’”

The ranking is based on two surveys – the first is of business schools and the second is of alumni who completed their masters degrees in 2021. Alumni responses to the FT survey provide data for eight categories in the ranking, which make up 58 per cent of the total weight.

These include a rating of the school’s alumni network and the careers services offered to students on the course. Nottingham scored in the world’s top twenty for the effectiveness of its postgraduate careers services, at 17 overall and third in the UK.

The programme was judged on a range of criteria, including average salaries and the career progression of alumni three years after they graduate. Nottingham performed strongly in the measure of ‘career progress’ placing in the top ten among the UK business schools included.

Nottingham’s alumni also rated its global alumni network highly, with an overall position of 27. The survey asks alumni various questions about their experience, including their ‘overall satisfaction,’ on a 10-point scale, where Nottingham alumni rated it among the best with an average score of 9.40, which places the school in the global top ten on this measure.

Data sent to the FT by business schools is used to measure the diversity of teaching staff, board members, and students, as well as the international reach of the programme.

Nottingham’s MSc Finance and Investment programme is recognised by the Chartered Financial Analysts Institute's university recognition programme. This status is granted to select institutions that have incorporated at least 70% of the CFA Programme Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) into their degree programmes.

Nottingham University Business School is closely connected to professional practice and students have the option to take industry-recognised digital qualifications by Microsoft and SAP alongside their course to develop the digital skills employers look for.
