The legend of Robin Hood comes to STTAR Centre

OurRobinHood

Professor Marina Novelli welcomes attendees

On Friday, 6 December 2024, the Sustainable Travel and Tourism Advanced Research (STTAR) Centre at Nottingham University Business School co-hosted the first of a series of collaborative events centred around the theme of Our Robin Hood: Past, Present, and Future in Action with Nottinghamshire County Council.

This event brought together local stakeholders and Robin Hood enthusiasts from across Nottinghamshire, who were invited to discuss the history and future of the legendary local figure.

Professor Marina Novelli (Director of the STTAR Centre) co-facilitated the event alongside STTAR colleagues Dr Carol Zhang, Dr Brendan Canavan, Dr Clare Foster, and Lip Vi Teoh. The aim of the event was to discuss the creation of an innovative and engaging 'Our Robin Hood Experience' for all by enhancing residents' engagement, benefits and ultimately visitor experience in Nottinghamshire.

Laura Simpson, Vistor Economy Manager - Growth, Infrastructure and Development, Place Department, Nottinghamshire County Council said:

The Robin Hood sandpit event, brought together stakeholders with an interest in the iconic legend of Robin Hood. At the event, connections were made and the drive in the room to make better use of our area’s unique selling point was tangible. The collaboration between the STTAR Centre at Nottingham University Business School and Nottinghamshire County Council in hosting this event has resulted in invaluable ideas, feedback and comments that will be used by the County Council to create a dynamic and impactful ‘Robin Hood Action Plan’ to inform future activity, both as a single organisation and in partnership. I look forward to working with the STTAR centre on the next steps in this exciting journey.

A big thank you goes to all the participants for their passionate contributions and insights, which truly enriched the event, making it a memorable and impactful experience for everyone involved.

Professor Novelli added:

'At the STTAR Centre, we look forward to taking this experience to the next phase and continue collaborating with local stakeholders in what is one of the UK’s top destinations and contributing more valuable insights to local authorities' policy and planning of the sector.'

Dr Zhang commented:

'Together, we are ensuring that the spirit of Robin Hood continues to inspire and engage people from all walks of life.'
