My research interests include: organizational learning, knowledge development and strategic management; management education and the future of the business school; strategy and organization; demographic ageing and the implications of an ageing workforce and for strategic management.
Research has been conducted in the television industry on organisational learning across production networks following industry restructuring. In financial services, several projects were undertaken and funded by the Financial Services Research Forum to investigate organisational learning in the financial services sector.
I was an investigator on a complex ESRC funded project, examining the dynamics of knowledge production in Business Schools which explored issues of knowledge development and co-production. This research contributed to debates about the role of management education in management learning. This project led to further research and publications on management education and the future of the business school.
The impact of demographic ageing upon work, careers, organisations and strategy is another research interest. Research undertaken includes: conceptual work drawing on the career challenges facing older workers from extended working lives associated with the raising of the pension age which raises policy and management issues, an examination of gendered ageism at a major broadcaster, and challenges and opportunities for business resulting from 'silver markets'.
Another research priority has been how organisational flexibility has influenced careers, knowledge and learning. For example, how flexible organisational forms designed for flexibility in working practices impact on organisational learning and knowledge development.
