Dr Mali is an Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham. He is currently the Deputy Director of the Flying Start Program, and the module convener for Financial Accounting and Reporting 1 and 2. From 2018 to 2021, Dr Mali held the position of Senior Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, where he held the position of Research Lead for the Financial Accounting and Management Accounting department. He was employed at Kyungsung University, Busan, as an Assistant Professor of Accounting from 2012 to 2018. From 2016-2018, he was the Head of the International Business Department. He has held various non-academic positions before entering academia. He worked for the Korean board of education (2010-2012), as a Management Accountant for the NHS (2005-2008) and Financial Accountant (2004-2005). He holds a PhD in Accounting from Pusan National University, South Korea, a Masters' Degree in Business Administration (MBA), from the Liverpool University, an MA in Education from the Institute of Education (University of London), and a BA(Hons) in Accounting and Finance from Bangor University. He is an ACCA member, and holds a FHEA.
Dr Mali's research interests are concentrated in the areas of human capital disclosures/reporting, non-financial reporting, Accounting Education, credit ratings, audit policy and corporate governance. His research has been published in a variety of journals including Accounting Forum, Annals of Operations Research, (ABS ranking 3*), Accounting education, Australian Accounting Review, Asia-Pacific Journal of Accounting and Finance, and Applied Accounting Research (ABS ranking 2*), Journal of Credit Risk, Investment Analyst Journal, Corporate Ownership and Control , and International Journal of Management Education, (ABS ranking 1*), amongst others. He has successfully secured over £60,000 in research funding.
Dr Mali has supervised 6 PhD students to successful completion. He is looking to supervise students who are interested in conducting research in financial reporting transparency, Non-financial (human capital) reporting, audit policy/quality, amongst others.
