Emmanuel Adegbite is ranked top 0.2% in the world in governance research, top 0.3% in the world in corporate governance research and top 1% in the world in accounting research by ScholarGPS life-time 2024 rankings, which also ranked him 36th (lifetime) and 26th (prior five years) in the world in terms of corporate governance research quality. He is also placed in the top 0.5% of all scholars (in all fields) worldwide.

He received a Best Paper Award at the 2024 Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management, USA; Social Issues in Management Best Paper Award at the 2020 Conference of the Africa Academy of Management; the International Corporate Governance Best Paper Award nomination at the 2017 Academy of Management Annual Meeting, USA; the International Business Review Best Journal Paper of the Year Award in 2016; the Celebrated Nigerian in Education Award UK in 2016; and the Durham University award for Excellence in Research in 2014.

He has published in the Journal of Management Studies; Journal of World Business; Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal; Critical Perspectives on Accounting; Journal of Business Research; Journal of Business Ethics; Business and Society amongst others. He serves as Associate Editor for Business Ethics, the Environment & Responsibility and as senior editor for the African Accounting and Finance Journal. He is also on the editorial boards of Corporate Governance as well as the International Journal of Corporate Social Responsibility.

Emmanuel is a visiting professor at James Cook University, Singapore, and works closely with business leaders and policy influencers in implementing good corporate governance standards, and in developing strategies for instrumental corporate social responsibility. He served on the committee that wrote the 2022 National Corporate Governance Code for Ghana, and also on the committee that developed the 2024 continental (African) Director Development Programme Framework for the African Corporate Governance Network.
