As Head of Business School Postgraduate Careers, Julie oversees the work of the Postgraduate Careers Team. This includes careers advice and guidance, employer relations activities, career progression data collection for rankings and accreditation plus a range of other activities.
The team works closely with academic and professional services colleagues and focuses on delivering tailored services and activities for MBA, MSc and PhD students and alumni offering:
- Individual Careers Consultations
- Careers and Professional Development sessions
- Specialist Careers Information
- Careers networking events
- Psychometric Assessments (ability tests and personality assessment tools)
- Access to work experience and employment opportunities
Julie is a qualified Careers Consultant and has extensive experience of working in Higher Education careers services, specialising in working with business school postgraduate students since 2004. Within the Business School she is a member of various committees relating to rankings, accreditation, teaching and learning. She is also a member of the University's Careers and Employability Service Management Team and the Postgraduate Taught Strategy Group.
Nationally Julie is an active member of AGCAS, the UK's professional body for careers staff in Higher Education. She has delivered training, advised on policy issues, spoken at conferences and chaired a UK-wide committee with a focus on postgraduate careers. For a number of years she was the Chair of the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS) Postgraduate Taught Task Group, a UK-wide task group focusing on developing resources and training for HE careers professionals working with PGT students. She was awarded the AGCAS President's Medal in 2022 for her contributions. She is now a Peer Reviewer for the AGCAS Membership Quality Standard.
Julie also sits on the Board of Directors for Careers Service and Employer Alliance, a global network of business school focused careers professional, employers and providers.
As a long-standing Associate of the International Centre for Guidance Studies at the University of Derby Julie guest lectures for the MA in Careers Education and Coaching.
Areas of ExpertiseIn addition to leading the Postgraduate Careers Team, Julie leads on the School's careers provision for MBA students and is qualified in psychometric assessments e.g. ability tests, Spotlight, Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Step 1 and 2, OPQ32. She is a member of the British Psychological Society.
