I am a Professor of Sustainable Business and Development, and currently the Research Director in the Strategy and International Business Department at NUBS. I am a Business and Society scholar with a great interest in theorising, understanding and influencing how organisations tackle sustainability challenges in different contexts, geographies and industries.

I identify as a social justice advocate who believes in working with diverse actors to co-produce research that has positive and sustained societal impacts. I am currently leading multi-stakeholder efforts towards a more sustainable and responsible artisanal and small-scale mining in Kenya (visit https://sustainable-asm.com to learn more about this work).

I have over ten years experience in the civil society sector in Africa working on women and economic empowerment, volunteering, and business and social development. I am involved in numerous initiatives that enhance the capacity of institutions of higher learning especially in the Global South notably, my work as a founding member of the Africa Academy of Management, UN PRME Chapter Africa, and the Africa Diaspora Academic Network-UK.

• Managing for Sustainability

My research is in the broad area of Business and Development. My work critically examines the role of business in development focusing on business impacts on grand challenges (including poverty, corruption, and social exclusion), and how business objectives and development goals might be better aligned for greater positive impacts. At the centre of my enquiry is how business can act as development agents and its implications on governance and sustainable development at local, national and global levels.

My current research themes:

i) Sustainable Mining in Developing countries - I involved in engaged research working with mining stakeholders and policy makers on Sustainable Artisanal and Small Scale Mining (ASM) in Kenya.
