Luis Torres is an Associate Professor and the Director of Executive Education. He is also a Researcher in Residence at Connected Places Catapult, co-founder of Sustaina Value in Chile, and Associate Editor for Safety Science. He worked in the University of Nottingham Ningbo Campus (China) for 2.5 years before joining NUBS UK in 2020.

Luis has worked for over 15 years for organisations in Chile, Spain, China, and the UK. He has led client-focussed management consulting and learning solutions for public and private sector organisations in several industries including manufacturing, finance, logistics, energy, agriculture, and retail, among others. He has designed and delivered executive education programmes for middle and top management teams including the C-Suite and the Board of Directors of large and medium-sized companies. Luis has also led consultancy projects in different areas including strategic management; business and human rights; diversity management; corporate governance; and external assurance of non-financial information.

His research projects have been funded by institutions such as the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), Health Data Research UK, the Innovation Launchpad Network+, and the Transforming Foundation Industries Network+. His latest work has focused on decarbonisation through the identification of policy enablers for architectural glass circularity, and the identification of barriers to embed circular economy principles into public procurement of net zero solutions, as well as on 'just transition' through the study of labour inequalities and underemployment.

Luis holds a PhD in Management, a MA in Environmental Law and Sustainability, a MSc in Human Resources, and a BSc (Hons) in Organisational Psychology. He is also trained in international human rights law, green and sustainable finance, and advanced data science.


Areas of Expertise
Luis' expertise lies on the governance, risk, and management of sustainable organisations. Key themes in his work are corporate social responsibility/ESG, labour inequalities, and compliance management.

His approach is applied, multidisciplinary, data-driven, and policy-oriented.

Luis is currently interested in projects promoting the development and management of sustainable organisations through environmental, social and governance research, insights and analytics.

'How is COVID-19 impacting women and men's working lives in the UK?' Joint with Professor Tracey Warren and the UK Women's Budget Group. It was funded by Health Data Research UK, as part of the rapid funding call to use and enrich the data within the Data & Connectivity National Core Study capability.
