Tarek Abdelfattah is an Associate Professor in Accounting at Nottingham University Business School. He completed his PhD in Accounting and Finance at Durham University. Tarek has extensive experience teaching postgraduate and undergraduate programmes in several institutions in the UK, UAE, and Egypt. Prior to joining the University of Nottingham, He was a Senior Lecturer of Accounting and Financial Management at the University of Portsmouth and held the post of Assistant Professor of Accounting at Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University UAE, and Lecturer of Accounting and Auditing at The British University in Egypt (BUE) and Mansoura University, Egypt. In addition, he has previously held part-time academic positions at Durham University Business School and Sunderland Business School.
Tarek's research interests cover the areas of financial reporting, corporate governance, and auditing. His work on topics such as narrative reporting, gender diversity, audit reporting, corporate social responsibility, and financial reporting quality has been published in leading international journals including the Journal of Business Ethics, International Review of Financial Analysis, Journal of Business Research, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, and the International Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Taxation. Tarek has secured funds in two projects with the FRC related to his work on extended audit reporting and corporate remuneration reporting. He serves as Editor for the International Journal of Excellence in Islamic Banking and Finance.
Tarek has substantial practical experience in consultancy and training in the field of accounting and auditing. He provided consultations and designed professional courses for private and governmental organizations in the MENA region. He works closely with industry & professional agencies and serves as a member of the advisory committee of TUV SUD PSB Singapore for Management Systems and Product Certification (ACMP).
