Wei is an Associate Professor in Finance, Risk and Banking. Before joining the Nottingham University Business School in July 2021, Wei was Associate Professor in Finance at the Southampton Business School, University of Southampton. Prior to that, Wei was Lecturer in Finance at Swansea University and Teaching Fellow in Finance at the University of Durham. From 2011 to 2012, Wei was Strategic Investment Manager at the SinoChem, China. Wei obtained both his MSc (with distinction) and PhD degrees from the University of Durham.

Wei's main research interests are in empirical corporate finance and corporate governance, including banks, mergers and acquisitions, executive compensation, board composition, corporate payout policy, corporate social responsibility, mutual fund management, debt contracting, and market-based accounting.
