Digital Leadership and Innovation for Public Sector Transformation programme
In November 2024, Executive Education delivered an eight-day custom training programme on 'Digital Leadership and Innovation for Public Sector Transformation' to a group of 16 senior public officials from the Malaysian Government.
The Executive Education team were approached to develop a residential programme to address the challenges posed by fast-paced technological advancements and the increasing demand for innovative public services in Malaysia.
The programme bought together 12 leading academics from Nottingham University Business School with partner organisations, including Nottingham City Transport, Digital Notts and City as Lab to deliver industry and research-led content. This resulted in a varied programme featuring case studies, group discussions and industry visits. The participants completed and presented group projects applying the learning to their respective sectors which the delivery team was able to offer feedback and additional inputs to take back to their organisations.
The programme was primarily delivered at the new Executive Education training facility at Castle Meadow Campus, which provided a professional environment for collaborative learning and focused discussions. Sessions were also delivered at the University of Nottingham’s Jubilee and University Park campuses, with some evening meals organised at city centre restaurants to provide the experience of both the University and Nottingham as a host city. The Executive Education team worked with the client to support a variety of requirements including bespoke halal menus and a schedule to include religious observance.
Reflecting on the programme, Lucy Cooker, Professor of International Education and Faculty Director of Global Engagement for the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Nottingham said:
"Meeting the Malaysian Government officials who recently completed our custom Executive Education programme on Digital Transformation in the Public Sector was an absolute delight. The enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated by the group were truly inspiring. It was an honour for us at the University of Nottingham to continue delivering globally impactful and tailored programmes that drive meaningful change."
Client reflection
Organiser Arfan Rashid, Business Development Manager at Educ8 Technology, Malaysia said:
“The feedback I received from the participants has been overwhelmingly positive. Many of them found the training to be a game-changer, equipping them with invaluable insights and practical tools that have enabled them to design and implement innovative strategies within their respective organisations. The program not only enhanced their understanding of emerging technologies but also empowered them to drive meaningful change and achieve measurable results."
Delivery team reflections
The programme was developed by Nottingham University Business School academics Dr Wafaa Ahmed, Assistant Professor in Information Systems, and Andy Callaghan, Professor of Practice in Strategy and Digital Transformation.
Dr Ahmed said:
"The participants brought a wealth of expertise and an inspiring commitment to driving digital transformation in their respective sectors. In my sessions, I covered a range of prominent topics, including emerging technologies, their capabilities, and critical governance considerations. Their insightful presentations reflected both deep engagement and innovative thinking. This programme also offered a valuable opportunity to bridge our cutting-edge research with the needs of external policymakers, fostering a productive exchange of knowledge and ideas."
Professor Callaghan, added:
"It was a real pleasure to work with the Malaysian delegation. We were able to challenge current thinking and stretch their understanding of how to approach a digital transformation. I am confident that the delegates will return home with a solid foundation to make significant savings for the Malaysian Government across the Healthcare, Education and Child Care sectors."
