Jacquelyn Laughlin - MBA
As part of her MBA studies in 2019-20, Jacquelyn was involved in Business Practice Week.
One of the highlights of our MBA programme is our Business Practice Week, which takes students to companies and organisations in Nottingham and London to learn first-hand about different types of businesses, their current challenges and how these relate to the theory studied on the course.
This opportunity to forge relationships with like-minded people, be inspired by leading experts, while relating theory to practice is invaluable to the future success of our students.
She commented: "Each speaker was kind, inviting, and knowledgeable about their company and topic. In many cases, the theory we were learning in class was very applicable to what we learned at each company. One of my favourite visits was to JCB, which was a company I wouldn’t have sought out on my own that is far more dimensional than I could have anticipated.
Business Practice Week was by far one of my favourite parts of the fall semester. We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit almost ten companies and two non-profit organisations. I loved the exposure to different industries.
My personal favourite was working with the Hope Centre in Nottingham, a base for charities working together to support the community. We worked in teams to present an idea supporting the sustainability of their weekly café. Being able to further my education and learn while helping the community - there is no better feeling."
