Yuma Imamura - MSc in International Tourism Management and Marketing

Yuma Imamura, an MSc in International Tourism Management and Marketing student, has over five years of tourism work experience in the public sector in Japan and it was her aspiration for effective tourism policy-making and evaluation that influenced her decision to take a career break and study tourism academically.

Why choose Nottingham University Business School?

The reason I chose the MSc in International Tourism Management and Marketing at Nottingham University Business School is because the course structure stands out, especially in capturing tourism from a marketing context.

In the autumn semester, we did a marketing report about the tourism experience in Nottingham Castle for group coursework on the International Tourism Management module.

It was very practical, and the feedback from the client gave me confidence for future tourism planning. Other modules, such as Marketing Management or Sustainable Tourism, have also helped me to develop tourism expertise.

Alongside my studies, I have actively engaged in various extracurricular activities. For example, as a course representative, I have had close communication with course mates as well as the university.

Doing workouts at the University Sports Centre has helped me to change my thinking when I felt I’d studied too much and sometimes I’ve planned trips for myself to explore the UK.

I am also enthusiastic about learning languages. In addition to English classes, I started taking Spanish classes in the spring semester, hoping to expand the opportunity for communicating with more people, which is vital in tourism. They are really helpful for me to improve my languages, as well as to get to know other motivated peers.

Doing a master's course, especially for a mature student like me, is not easy. However, so far, I’ve enjoyed it a lot. I’ve had lots of opportunities to meet like-minded students, and we have motivated each other.

Although my journey at Nottingham is still ongoing, I am excited to develop tourism policy in Japan by making full use of the experience here after finishing the course.
