Biodiversity and Business

The conservation of biodiversity is a fundamental requirement for sustainable development.

It is enshrined in two of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the SDGs to conserve ‘life below water’ and ‘life on land’.  Unfortunately, the relationship between biodiversity and business is poorly understood by both businesses and the business and management literature.

‘Biodiversity and Business’ is an area of emerging scholarship for ICCSR and is focussed on answering questions such as:

  • what is the meaning of biodiversity in a business context
  • what are the most significant business models used for biodiversity promotion
  • what organisational forms enable and inhibit biodiversity
  • how is biodiversity conserved within specific value chains activities, e.g. operations and supply chain management

ICCSR are keen to partner with businesses, business stakeholders and academics to better understand the relationship between biodiversity and business.  We also encourage PhD applications in this area.
