Description

The Role of Capital Markets in the International Aviation Industry

Nottingham University Business School invites you to hear special guest speaker: Charles Jenkins Director - Aviation, Corporate Banking Division for EMEA The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd.

Charles and his team offer capital solutions to airlines, operating lessors, and investors in aviation. Recently, the aviation team acted as global co-ordinator and bookrunner for British Airways' $1.75bn revolving credit facility, in turn winning Airfinance Journal's 'Corporate Loan Deal of the Year 2015' award. The award hailed the deal as the largest bespoke revolving credit facility for an airline in Europe, achieving significant cost savings for British Airways and representing excellent terms in the prevailing market. The aviation team works closely with MUFG's Asian corporate banking team and structured finance team (based in Tokyo, Singapore and New York) to provide cross-border services, as well as with MUFG Securities for structured capital market products. Charles' presentation will cover the following:

  • Introduction to MUFG and a quick potted history.
  • Our current footprint in EMEA.
  • Aviation at the bank.
  • Themes in the aviation market at present.
  • Are we in a current super cycle? Where and when will it end and what will the triggers be?
  • Next steps for the Aviation market.

Charles joined the legal department of MUFG in August 2011 as an Associate Director where he worked for three years, specialising in Asset and Project finance as well as documenting LMA Investment Grade loans. In January 2015, he moved into the Asset Finance team as an Associate Director. During this time his main areas of specialism were structured debt finance, specifically high level structuring of debt products to ensure deliverability to customers and mitigation of execution risk. In 2016 he was appointed as the Sector Head for Aviation and Airports covering a wide remit for EMEA, focussing specifically building the corporate banking practice and ensuring that the global footprint of the bank translated into similarly global relationships with MUFG’s Corporate client base. He has also acted as a trustee for MUFG’s pension fund over the last 5 years using his legal and banking background to ensure the fund is properly funded.

Prior to joining the Bank he worked in private practice for BLP in the debt structuring finance department, specifically focussing on Asset finance (Aviation, Rolling Stock and Shipping) and restructuring of a number of Lehman Bros insolvent securitisation structures.

Charles originally read music at The University of Nottingham, graduating in 2004 where he then proceeded to undertake the Law Conversion course at Nottingham Law School.
