The Nottingham Enactus team, crowned 2016 UK national champions for their work to establish sustainable, not-for-profit, social enterprises both at home and in a rural town in Cameroon, were recently featured on the BBC.

Enactus Nottingham's Aquor Water Technology enterprise uses their own filter design to provide clean water to thousands of people in Bambui, a town of 30,000 in northwest Cameroon. The majority of families in Bambui use contaminated river or lake water as their primary source, which causes serious illnesses in the community.

Enactus are working with the community to set up water kiosks that incorporate biosand filtration technology to purify water in an affordable way.

In September 2016, the Nottingham team will go on to represent Enactus UK in the Enactus World Cup in Toronto, competing against 35 other countries.

President of Enactus Nottingham, Andy Stride, has just completed a BSc Management at Nottingham University Business School and in September embarks on an MSc Entrpreneurship, Innovation and Management at the School. Andy is no stranger to international ventures having lived in Thailand where he was a Scuba Diving Instructor for a short-time. He has visited Australia and South Africa representing Enactus Nottingham and even presented the Aquor project at the House of Lords earlier this year. The Enactus Wordwide organisation have consulted Andy for advice on how to make projects more sustainable.

Speaking about his passion for entrepreneurship and innovation, Andy said: "Through the course and the School's support, I have been able to start up my own company using the knowledge from many different modules. Next year I am starting a foundation to help fund charities and young entrepreneurs projects".
