Success for teaching staff at 'Staff Oscars'
Many congratulations to two Nottingham University Business School academics who have scooped prizes in the 'Teaching' category at this year’s ‘Staff Oscars’.
Roberto Hernan (Associate Professor of Industrial Economics) won the ‘Best Use of Technology’ Oscar in the Teaching category. This award recognises the skilful use of technology to support and make student learning interesting, ranging from Moodle materials to videos to voting pads in lectures etc.
Justin Waring (Professor of Organisational Sociology and Director of the Centre for Health Innovation, Leadership and Learning) was Runner up for ‘Best Feedback’ in the Teaching category. The award recognises a member of teaching staff giving particularly useful feedback that really clarifies the mark a student receives, how they could have done better and helpful suggestions for how to improve on future pieces of work.
The University of Nottingham Staff Oscars are organised by the Education Network of the Students’ Union. The nominations judging panel is comprised of School Education Reps and Postgraduate Education Reps, elected students who act as ‘head course reps’ for their School/Department. The process is then overseen by the Education Officer and Postgraduate Officer, the joint figureheads of the Network.
This is the sixth time the University of Nottingham Staff Oscars have run and follow in the wake of past very successful events. With over 450 nominations made last year, University of Nottingham students showcased the amazing work over 14 nominations categories from best personal tutor through to best support staff member and best use of technology to enhance learning. Organised by the Education Network of the Students’ Union, the Staff Oscars is a student-led event. The nominations judging panel is comprised of School Education Reps and Postgraduate Education Reps, elected students who act as ‘head course reps’ for their School/Department. The process is then overseen by both the Education Officer and Postgraduate Officer, the joint figureheads of the Network.
