Sandpit: Research opportunities for the Film & TV industry and academia

In order to encourage discussion between the Film and TV industry and academia, a sandpit event has been organised to coincide with the visit of Tom Walsh* to the university. The sandpit will be a unique opportunity to faciliate the generation of research ideas and identify ways of building on existing research and partnerships with industry.

The event will comprise of two sessions. The morning session (10-12.30) will identify main areas of interest, core assets, and key opportunities to build on existing track record of industry research at both UoN and partner institutions.

The afternoon session (2-5pm) will expand on the morning's discussion by outlining as clearly and in detail as possible the intended and necessary deliverables and mechanism to deliver them that are needed in order to achieve the objectives identified in the morning session. It is our hope that by the end of this session clear future research projects and collaborations will have been identified and a timetable for implementation agreed on.

Topics of debate will thus include:

  • Methodologies of collaboration between academia and industry
  • Aims and objectives of emerging collaborations: ideal outcomes, deliverables, necessary support structures
  • Blue-sky thinking on innovative collaborative projects
