Dr Hannah Durkin, CAS Bursary Holder 2012/13
The Centre for Advanced Studies is pleased to announce the launch of the fifth annual round of the Post-Doctoral Bursary scheme, and welcomes applications from Early Career Researchers who have been awarded their PhD in the last 24 months and whose work complements Arts and Social Sciences research here at Nottingham.
Previous bursary holders have a rich history of success, both in terms of applications for follow-on funding and in finding full-time employment once their research is complete. All three bursary holders for 2012/13 have secured their long-term ambitions; Dr Okyere has a full-time lectureship in Sociology & Social Policy and Dr Danilova has travelled to Russia to conduct research, and is now considering an offer to take up a post at the University of Nottingham: Malaysia Campus. Meanwhile Dr Durkin has been awarded a prestigious Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship which will enable her continued research, specifically in the area of ‘Anthropological Artistry: Early Black and Jewish Women Ethnographic Filmmakers’.
"Thanks to this bursary, I have developed an award-worthy research project, made vital contacts, enhanced my publication profile and conference experience, and transformed my Ph.D. into a forthcoming book” (Dr Hannah Durkin, CAS Postdoctoral Bursary holder 2012/13)
Bursaries include an honorarium of up to £9,000, with research expenses up to a maximum of £1,000 available. The award can be held for a minimum period of 3 months and a maximum of 9 months, and bursary holders are able to use office space in Highfield House for the period of their award.
The application deadline for the 2013/14 competition is 18th July 2013. In the meantime please contact Allison Pearson with any query about the scheme.
