The annual RSC Organic poster symposium took place on Friday 30th November at Burlington House, London where two of our PhD students Hiroki Wada and Keith Andrews submitted their posters on ‘Total Synthesis of Plantazolicin A - hairpin structure?’ and ‘Catalytic Alkylation and Trifluoroethylation of Amines using Carboxylic Acids’ which claimed 1st and 2nd prize out of 40 that were selected for presentation.

The symposium which is sponsored by 12 chemical companies such as F. Hoffmann-La Roche and BP provides final year PhD students in Organic chemistry the opportunity to highlight their research by submitting a poster which is showcased at the symposium and the RSC award the posters prizes at the end of the day. It also gives a chance for PhD students to network with industrial chemists, academics and other peers.

The prizes awarded to poster winners are:

  • First Prize winner - £500
  • Industry Prize Winner - £500
  • Two runners up - £250

The Royal Society of Chemistry has described the poster symposium as “the most competitive and highly regarded organic chemistry poster symposium for PhD students in the UK and Ireland”.

Congratulations to both of our winners on their achievements.
