In 1996, Alexandra Harrington and Rosemary Fasey co-edited Fontan, a periodical showcasing postgraduate research and other academic activities in the department.
The first issue celebrated the visit of the Soviet writer Vladimir Voinovich, whose trip to Nottingham was of particular importance to postgraduate Rachel Farmer, who was in the process of completing her doctoral research on his work. The magazine also featured a regular column by graduate Richard Barley, then working in Moscow, reporting on news and current affairs a Russian perspective.
The 1997 edition of Fontan featured articles by Cynthia Marsh and Wendy Rosslyn on their latest research, while Alexandra Harrington described the trials and tribulations of studying for a PhD on a part-time basis and Matthew Trump provided helpful tips for “Russifying your PC”.
