Teaching Materials
When Janko Lavrin arrived at the University of Nottingham in 1918, he found only an ‘old-fashioned Russian grammar’ at his disposal for teaching purposes.
Whilst the textbook in question, Bondar’s Simplified Russian Method, undoubtedly gave students a good grounding in commercial language, since then staff at Nottingham have made many valuable contributions to the field of language teaching.
In more recent years, teaching methods have evolved in order to take full advantage of developments in technology. In 1987, Cynthia Marsh filmed an interview with Russian lectrice, Elena Stolyarova, for use as audio-visual teaching material.
Current staff now create bespoke courses incorporating current events and online resources.
