In 1983, the production of Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya was the first play to become the focus of the departmental project, which took place in the two weeks after the examination period at the end of the summer term.
Director Cynthia Marsh recalls: “Uncle Vanya was my earliest go at a serious classic. I thought I couldn't tackle the whole thing in the time available after the exams, so we did acts 3 and 4, with some cutting, as most of the students I was working with were beginners.”
