Event details

This online event is guided by this overarching question: How might ‘devolution’ and increased local decision-making impact on the UK’s creative, cultural and heritage sectors?

Over the last year, Culture Commons has been leading up a coalition of 30 partners from across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland as part of a major research and open policy development programme exploring how devolution and increased local decision-making might impact on the UK’s creative, cultural and heritage ecosystem.

This online event will officially mark the publication of the findings and recommendations from The Future of Local Cultural Decision-making programme. Leading policy thinkers, research teams and sector representatives will outline the headline findings and take attendees through key policy recommendations in great detail.

Attendees will learn about:

  • headline findings from the research phase delivered by leading academics and policy practitioners;
  • deep-dive discussions with sector representatives and thought leaders through workshops and mini-panels;
  • policy briefings from the Culture Commons team focussed on key recommendations; and
  • networking opportunities with representatives from local, regional and national government and the creative, cultural and heritage ecosystem.

The event is structured around four key themes guided by the following questions:

  • Decision-making: What does it mean? Is local government ready for it? And what could the new normal look like?
  • Place shaping: Where is it working, who is involved, and can we do things differently?
  • Funding: Where is it going, where is it not, and how might we create more equity?
  • Local Voice: Who makes decisions, at what levels, and how might devolution turn the dial?

It is hoped that the new policy measures presented will assist decision-makers at all levels, and in all parts of the UK, to make the very most of the ongoing 'devolution revolution’ and develop a more equitable and sustainable flourishing of the ecosystem well into the future.
