Over 300 students from the Nottingham Bluecoat School and Technology College attended Chinese painting and calligraphy taster sessions on 17 March. The sessions were successfully led by 7 teachers and student volunteers from Nottingham Confucius Institute as part of the School’s China Enrichment Day Programme.

During the Chinese painting and calligraphy sessions, students were taught how to paint peony ( 牡丹) and wintersweet flowers (梅花) on a Chinese style fan using Chinese paint and brush. They were also introduced to the four treasures of a Chinese calligrapher’s study and how to write their names in Chinese using Chinese ink.

The taster sessions turned out to be a great success. All students took part with tremendous enthusiasm and curiosity. Many of them said that they had lots of fun and that they would take their Chinese fans, their first Chinese style art work back home and show them off to their parents.

The Bluecoat School expressed their gratitude to NCI for giving their students the opportunity to experience traditional Chinese culture.
