Nottingham Confucius Institute (NCI) celebrated the 20th Confucius Institute (CI) Day with a full day of community events, beginning with a Chinese arts and crafts workshop for children and families at Nottingham Central Library and culminating in an evening Autumn Charity Concert at Lakeside Arts, part of the University of Nottingham.

The morning workshop saw families make Chinese-style badges, with children and their parents exploring their creativity together and learning more about Chinese culture. Over 50 people attended, bringing a vibrant and joyful atmosphere to the library’s public space.

The celebration continued in the evening with the Autumn Charity Concert held at Lakeside Arts. Featuring a stunning performance by the UK China Ensemble, the concert, jointly organise by NCI and Lakeside Arts, attracted over 200 attendees from the local community. The musical evening showcased a blend of traditional and contemporary Chinese melodies, immersing the audience in rich soundscapes of drama and serenity.

The event raised nearly £1,300, which will be donated to the University of Nottingham's Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre (CBTRC). The generous support from attendees was a heartening accompaniment to the stirring entertainment of the evening and reflects how important this cause is to people’s hearts.

The 20th-anniversary celebrations for the founding of the CI were memorable and fun, bringing together people of all ages to learn, enjoy and give back to their community. As NCI continues to bridge cultures, events like the CI Day highlight the importance of cultural understanding and philanthropy within the community.
