Lakeside Arts was buzzing as nearly 1,000 people gathered to celebrate NCI’s spectacular Chinese New Year festivities. From captivating performances to hands-on cultural activities, the event offered an unforgettable experience for families and culture enthusiasts alike.
The daytime festivities, running from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, featured a range of free, drop-in sessions where attendees immersed themselves in traditional Chinese arts and crafts. They explored the beauty of Chinese knot-making, calligraphy, paper cutting and twist-stick crafts, while younger children delighted in glitter-filled colouring activities. With over 500 children and families taking part, the atmosphere was lively and filled with creativity.
As the sun set, the excitement soared with two sold-out Chinese New Year Gala shows at the Lakeside Djanogly Theatre. Both the 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM performances were fully booked over three weeks in advance, a testament to the event’s popularity. The stage was graced by the renowned Art Troupe of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Confucius Institute of London South Bank University, who delivered a breathtaking showcase of Chinese culture.
The one-hour spectacle kicked off with a mesmerizing lion dance, setting the tone for an evening of cultural brilliance. Audiences were captivated by enchanting performances on both traditional Chinese and Western instruments, including the guzheng, pipa, and violin. One highlight of the night was a breathtaking series of group Kung Fu routines, where raw strength, flawless precision and artistic finesse came together in perfect harmony. .
The evening was a spellbinding celebration of Chinese culture, ushering in the Chinese New Year with unforgettable style.
