During February half term over 1,300 children and families enjoyed our Chinese New Year celebratory events held across Nottingham. A variety of workshops including ribbon dancing, fan painting, lucky bracelet and dragon puppet making were delivered by our teachers and volunteers at Lakeside Arts on Saturday and Sunday 10-11 February from 12:00-3:00pm. Free drop- in calligraphy taster and arts and crafts sessions were also offered at Nottingham Central Library on 13 and 15 February from 12:00-2:00pm.

In addition, two gala performances, featuring the art troupe of traditional Chinese Medicine Confucius Institute of the London South Bank University, took place in the atrium of Nottingham Central Library on Saturday 17 February,. The professional artists delivered a colourful array of fascinating performances including Chinese suona, guzheng and violin music and spectacular group-coordinated Kung Fu routines. Each act served to create a multi-layered Chinese cultural experience, ushering in the Year of the Dragon in bold and stylish grace.

Having pledged to donate all proceeds from the workshops at Lakeside Arts and the gala shows at Nottingham Central Library to the University of Nottingham Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre (CBTRC), we are pleased to announce that over £1,000 has been raised and will be sent to CBTRC shortly.
