International Workshop: innovation and entrepreneurship in the developing world

23/5/2019

An international workshop, with the aim of establishing an international consortium to develop a global-local knowledge system for sustainable agriculture and food security in marginal areas in developing countries, was held on 2-3 May at the Si Yuan Centre. The event was organised by Nottingham University Future Food Beacon (FF Beacon), Haydn Green Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (HGI) and Africa Diaspora Academic Network in the UK (ADAN-UK) with support from NCI.

Over fifty academics, experts, local community and student  entrepreneur representatives from over 20 organisations from five countries attended the two-day event. VIP speakers included: Professor David Salt, UoN’s Director of Future Food Beacon; Professor Scott McCaeb, Associate Dean of Nottingham University Business School;  Professor Min Tang, State Councillor and Deputy Director of YouCheng Foundation and Professor Can Liu, Director of National Forest Research Centre, both from China;  Professor Santie de Villers from Pwani University in Kenya; Professor Florence Mtambanengwe from University of Zimbabwe, and Professor Amena Hohsin from University Dhaka in Bangladesh.

Feedback from all participants was overwhelmingly positive. “The successful event provides a sound base to develop a close research and development collaboration between the UK, China and other developing countries in the areas of sustainable agricultural and rural development” commented Dr Bin Wu, academic lead of the workshop.
