The past four weeks were very busy with Nottingham Confucius Institute staff and student volunteers delivering Chinese language lessons and cultural workshops for local schools as part of their Chinese New Year celebration activity. These events reached over 1,300 school pupils from across seven primary and secondary schools:
- St Edmund Campion Catholic Primary School (30 January, Year 1,2, 4 and 6, 210+ pupils)
- Broomhill Junior School, (6 January, Year 4, 75 pupils)
- Haydn Primary School (8 February, Year 3,4,5 and 6, 220+ pupils)
- Rushcliffe School (1-14 February, Year 8-11, 80+ pupils)
- Middleton Primary School (8 February, Year 4-5, 10+ pupils)
- Alderman White School (1-24 February, Year 7-11, 420+ pupils)
- 7. Nottingham Chinese School (24 February, reception to year 6, 300+ pupils)
Various activities were offered to the school children including paper cutting, origami, Chinese calligraphy, brush painting, fan painting and dumpling making.
Here’s are some examples of the overwhelmingly positive reception from staff and students at the schools:
“The craft activity was really effective and the step-by-step guidance to create the dragon puppet was clear enough for the children to follow. The finished puppets looked fab and I could tell the children were very excited to show them off at home.”
“The Mandarin taster was nicely structured, and we were really impressed with how much the children were learning and how engaged they were.”
“What an amazing opportunity to work in partnership with the Confucius Institute to provide first hand cultural experiences for our children.”
“Well organised with a mixture of history, lecture, language practice and application. Delivered with enthusiasm and in an engaging manner!”
“Making the paper dragon was so fun. I can’t wait to show it to my mummy!”
