Mandarin Corner: "Entering the World of Chinese Characters"

June 17 saw over 20 participants join NCI’s final Mandarin Corner event of the academic year, "Entering the World of Chinese Characters", with great enthusiasm. The online class introduced the origin, development and formation of Chinese characters and was delivered by highly experienced Mandarin teacher Ms Zhuanhui Guo.

After looking into the stories behind some of the basic Chinese characters and how Chinese as a pictographic language has evolved from its beginnings over 3,000 years ago, the participants engaged in interactive games which were designed to help consolidate what they had learned.

The event was very well received with several students saying that they have gained a better understanding of Chinese characters. “Knowing the origins of these characters makes learning Chinese more fun and will certainly help me memorise them”, commented another participant.

2021年6月17日，英国诺丁汉大学孔子学院成功举行题为“走进汉字世界”的汉语角，共有20多位热爱汉字的同学参与其中。

本次汉语角讲练相结合，先介绍了汉字的起源，发展及构字方式，学生了解了汉字背后的故事及造字的智慧，之后的互动性练习增强了学生学习汉字的积极性。多数学生表示这次介绍加深了对已知汉字的理解，以后的汉字学习会更关注其来源与意义，写汉字、学汉字时会变得更轻松、更生动、更有趣。

暑期将会继续系列性地介绍常用汉字的起源。
