Nottingham Confucius Institute (NCI) concluded its Autumn Term Mandarin Corner series with a vibrant evening focused on water lacquer painting, an ancient Chinese art form with over 2,000 years of history. The event brought together nearly 60 staff, students, and local residents for a creative and culturally enriching experience
Student host Ms. YE Zhining kicked off the evening with a warm welcome and an engaging introduction to the historical and cultural significance of water lacquer painting. After a live demonstration and step-by-step instructions, participants had the chance to craft their own unique water lacquer artwork – a beautifully personalised fan to take home.
The event embodied Mandarin Corner’s commitment to fostering cultural exchange and creativity within the community. For those who missed the event or wish to relive the experience, highlights have been shared in a video clip on our Instagram.
As the Autumn Term draws to a close, NCI extends heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff, event partner CSSA, student volunteers and participants who brought the series to life. Wishing everyone a joyous Christmas break, the NCI team looks forward to welcoming everyone back in the New Year for another term filled with learning and culture.
