Nottingham Confucius Institute joined the Broxtowe Community Celebration Group (BCCG) at the Season of Lights event to celebrate cultures from around the world on Saturday 1st December. The event took place at the Beeston Methodist Church and was attended by approximately 500 people including Councillor Derek Burnett BEM, Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe.
The BCCG is a local voluntary group supported by Broxtowe Borough Council. This Season of Lights is a popular annual event marking the many and varied festivities celebrated globally during this time of year, such as Christmas, Eid, Diwali and Hanukkah.
Four talented NCI volunteer teachers delivered a Chinese lantern making arts and crafts session during the event. Many participants, old and young, attended, eagerly learning how to make colourful electric-lit paper lanterns, which they took home to keep.
As the day closed, Broxtowe Borough Council’s event coordinator thanked our teachers for their contribution and welcomed NCI to take part in events throughout the year to promote Chinese culture to local people.
