We are pleased to announce that Miss Jiahong Liao, one of our overseas volunteer teachers, competed at the “UK Mandarin Teaching Championship - Central and Northern England” on Sunday 24 October, winning not just first prize but also the award for “Best Lesson Plan Design”. The event was jointly organised by Centre for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) UK and Chinese Proficiency Test UK Committee.
After a preliminary screening of submitted lesson plans, 16 Mandarin teachers from 11 organisations including Confucius Institutes, universities and local schools from across Central and Northern England, were selected by the competition judge panel to participate in the final contest on the day. The online contest consisted of two parts: a 15-minute online teaching demonstration and a 5-minute Q & A.
Jiahong is a third-year PhD researcher at the University of Nottingham’s School of Education. She had worked as a Confucius Institute volunteer teacher in the UK and South Korea before coming to Nottingham. She joined NCI as an overseas volunteer teacher in February 2021 and has been teaching Mandarin to Year 8 and 9 students at Rushcliffe School. Feedback from staff and students has been outstanding.
We are extremely proud of Jiahong’s achievement and would like to wish her the best of luck with her participation in the UK Mandarin Teaching Championship Final in Belfast later in the year.
诺丁汉大学孔院教师廖茄宏
荣获全英汉语教学技能大赛英格兰中部北部赛区一等奖
当地时间10月24日，全英汉语教师教学技能大赛英格兰中部北部赛区在线上举行，经过前期教案初赛的激烈竞争，来自英格兰中部北部地区各大学中文系、孔子学院以及当地中小学11所机构的16位老师入围决赛，其中包括诺丁汉大学孔子学院的海外志愿者教师廖茄宏。
当天的线上比赛先后分为两个环节：15分钟在线授课展示和5分钟即兴中英文问答。在线授课环节，廖茄宏老师在扎实的专业功底上另辟蹊径，从新颖的语素教学法入手，结合大量符合当地汉语学习者外语学习特点的课堂活动，完美地展现了初级汉语综合课的教学设计。在随后的即兴问答环节，廖茄宏老师以专业的问答表现，赢得了专家评审团和现场观众教师们的一致好评。
通过评委们的认真评选，最终廖茄宏老师荣获了大赛一等奖及单项奖“最佳教案奖”，并将代表英格兰中部及北部地区参加之后举行的全英总决赛。
值得一提的是，廖茄宏老师是诺丁汉大学教育学院的博士生，曾赴韩国、英国从事孔院汉语教师志愿者工作，2021年2月加入诺大孔院承担起拉什克里夫中学八九年级的汉语教学工作。 自疫情爆发以来，孔院的教学工作遇到了前所未有的困难和阻力，但在语合中心和复旦大学的大力支持和中外方院长的悉心领导下，诺大孔院始终重视教学管理成效，定期组织汉语教师开展教学研讨会，交流教学心得，反馈学生学习情况等，在大家的共同努力下，诺大孔院的教学能力与管理水平不断提升，得到学生们的一致好评。
