On 21 June 2012, the University of Nottingham hosted a bid-writing surgery for community groups interested in applying for All Our Stories funding. Groups were able to meet with academic staff for advice on developing and managing their project and with a staff from the University’s Marketing and Communications and Information Systems departments, who made suggestions for using digital technology to share and celebrate their projects. In addition, staff and student volunteers in the Digital Humanities Centre in the School of Humanities ran ‘drop-in’ demonstrations of photography, graphics and scanning (including a 3D-scanner), as well explaining how the Centre’s resources could be used by community groups. Over tea, Lesley Owen-Jones, HLF Development Manager for the East Midlands gave a presentation about the All Our Stories funding programme and Top Tips for writing your bid. The surgery was over-subscribed so a number of groups were not able to discuss their proposals in detail. It is hoped to set up a second surgery very shortly.
