Teaching Spartan and Ancient Greek History in Asia

Summary of talk

Does Spartan and Greek history hold resonance for undergraduates outside of Europe, North America and Australasia? What prior knowledge do such students have? What connections can those in Asia make with Sparta, and how can instructional design enable significant learning? (L.D. Fink, 2013). In this seminar we share our experiences as course lecturer, course member and course teaching assistant, within a global, English-speaking city-state and former British colony, with a complicated relationship to the western Classical past: the Republic of Singapore (colonial founding, 1819; independence, 1965).

Attendance to the webinar is free but you must register in advance via the link. https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/4682b494-d8ed-4470-9144-dac11ceb54bd@67bda7ee-fd80-41ef-ac91-358418290a1e
