Life Cycle 6 – help stop breast cancer in its tracks

The University’s annual fundraising campaign, Life Cycle 6, is back – and this year’s cause is our world-leading breast cancer research.

It is a sad reality that you, or someone you know, is likely to develop breast cancer at some point in life. Every day, in the UK alone, 140 women are told “you have breast cancer”. Around the world, 10,000 women die from the disease every week.

Four women – Lisa, Leanne, Sue and alumna Caroline – are at the heart of our campaign, #BreastCancerandMe. In our video, they share their experiences about life with breast cancer and hopes for the future.

Our experts in centres at Nottingham and Derby are working on innovative research to detect the disease early, stop it spreading and to treat it right – offering hope to thousands of women worldwide.

This innovative University of Nottingham research needs your support. Please join us and help raise £1 million to beat breast cancer.

We love cycling – but you don’t need a bike to take part

This year, there are lots of great ways to get involved in Life Cycle 6. Here are just a few:

Fundraise for us

Are you great at getting people together? Maybe you fancy doing something adventurous or can rival Mary Berry with your bake sales – we’re here to help whatever you want to do to raise funds. Get started with our fundraising tips and ideas.

Meet our researchers – Saturday 21 May

The University of Nottingham has a long history of delivering cutting-edge breast cancer research. The global standard used to predict a patient’s outcome – the Nottingham Prognostic Index – was first developed here in the eighties, and we haven’t stopped since.

Join us on Saturday 21 May at the Queen’s Medical Centre and meet some of our researchers. You can take a tour of our laboratories and hear first-hand about the life-saving work they are doing. If you would like to come along, please email events@nottingham.ac.uk

Get on your bike – or sponsor our team of cyclists

Our annual bike ride is back on 4 September 2016. You can choose your challenge with routes from 10 to 75 miles. Sign up to cycle.

Or let our Life Cycle team do the riding for you! Sponsor our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir David Greenaway, and team of intrepid Life Cycle riders to cycle over 1,400 miles to the four compass points of Britain this August. Sponsor the team.

New treatments, therapies and earlier diagnosis for breast cancer are all needed today – for women like Lisa, Leanne, Sue and Caroline.

Our researchers and clinicians are working to make this a reality. Please support them if you can.
