As we welcome a new cohort of students starting their time with us our Vice Chancellor and Students Union Development Officer have shared a letter for our student community as the 2020/21 academic year commences.
Hello everyone and welcome to Nottingham,
This is one of the most exciting times of the year as our new students explore our University for the first time and our current students return to recommence their studies and renew friendships.
It will also be an extraordinary year - in every sense of the word - but at the University of Nottingham, we are accustomed to dealing with the extraordinary and all of us are here to support you every step of the way. If you need to find out anything during your first weeks, do visit our Welcome webpages.
Hundreds of our colleagues have worked across the summer to ensure our campuses are safe and ready for you. All the information you will need about our social distancing measures, reporting symptoms and campus testing facilities are posted on our Coronavirus Information webpages. Look out for our campus safety ambassadors who will be on hand to support you and answer any questions you may have.
Our libraries and study spaces will be open and COVID-secure and while your teaching will be in person, wherever it is safe to do so, we will also teach online so that you will never miss any material.
Although we are social distancing, we are still socially active. Our Students’ Union, societies and sports facilities have developed a wide range of activities to help you socialise, keep fit and make new friends. You can find out more on at the Students' Union webpages or by visiting the Portland Building and David Ross Sports Village.
In of all the excitement of the next few weeks, please remember to follow all social distancing measures on campus and in the community. The University of Nottingham is a community where we support each other. Please show your support for keeping yourselves and those around you safe by signing our Community Pledge.
The next few months - like the last few - will no doubt bring unexpected challenges. We will adapt to any necessary measures and may need to be flexible from time to time. Don’t be afraid to seek advice or help.
But most of all, we hope you will enjoy your time with us, make new friends and take every opportunity that the University, the Students’ Union and city of Nottingham have to offer.
Take care, be safe and we look forward to seeing you around on campus.
