Promoting the Teaching and Learning of German in the East Midlands: Show and Tell Event

As part of our commitment to our partnership schools, we are inviting secondary and primary modern languages mentors, other ML colleagues, ECTs, current trainees and colleagues with an interest in languages to attend our professional development and research meetings.

December's seminar is hosted in collaboration with colleagues from German Studies in the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies and the Derwent Languages Hub.

This event will bring together teachers of German across all phases from KS2 to university level and will provide an opportunity for local language educators to share approaches to the teaching and learning of German. The Derwent Languages Hub will provide an update on local and national opportunities to support the teaching and learning of German, including via the Goethe Institut’s GIMAGINE project. The event will be of particular relevance to teachers of German but also to Language Departments keen to broaden the range of languages on offer to young people in the region. There are already some very strong links between Germany and the East Midlands, and this event will provide an opportunity to deepen and strengthen these further. During the workshop we will also consider the action we might take to encourage more learners to study German at all levels and to choose to become teachers of German.
