Trainee teacher funding announced for 2018/19

The Department of Education has announced that bursaries of up to £30,000 will be available for trainee teachers in 2018/19.

As in previous years, the amount of funding will depend on the subject and age-range students train to teach as well as their undergraduate degree results.

PGCE Secondary

• Mathematics: £20,000 plus two early-career payments of £5,000 (after tax)
• Physics, biology, chemistry, geography or modern languages: £26,000
• English: £15,000
• History: £9,000 for trainee with first/PhD; £4,000 for trainee with 2:1/masters

PGCE Primary

• Mathematics: £6,000
