Dr Jenny Elliott gains level 3 forest school leader award

Congratulations to Dr Jenny Elliott, who has recently qualified as a level 3 forest school leader with the Forest School Association. The certificate is for people who understand the importance of play and the outdoors for children’s health and wellbeing and capacity to learn. Also, that giving children opportunities to experience nature is a prerequisite for caring for nature.

Jenny commented: "I am very grateful to the school and colleagues for their practical and emotional support to get to the end of this qualification. In particular, a big thank you to the PGCE primary team and students, for their willingness to think creatively in the outdoor spaces."

Jenny has also worked with year 6 children from John Clifford Primary School in Nottingham who had a lot of fun re-enacting Islamic trading routes in their inspiring outdoor space, with twigs pebbles, leaves and a heaps of imagination!

Jenny will be working again with the PGCE tutor team in July and is looking forward to continuing working with colleagues from across the School of Education, to develop creative ways of engaging with the university's outdoor learning and community space and the soon-to-be developed Jubilee Community Gardens, to support nature-connection, sustainability and climate crisis education/pedagogies.
