Biography
Dr. Smaragda Kampouri teaches on the MA TESOL programme. Her background is in language teaching (ELT) and English for specific and academic purposes (ESP/EAP). She has a PhD in English language teaching and an MA in English for specific purposes, both from the University of Essex.
Smaragda was a Programme Leader for the BA(Hons) in TESOL and Linguistics (2018- 2021) and interim Programme Leader for the MA in Education with TESOL (2017) at Bishop Grosseteste University, in Lincoln, UK. She was also director of the Trinity CertTESOL courses (2018- 2021). In addition to teaching TESOL modules and coordinating teaching practice for both undergraduate and postgraduate students at Bishop Grosseteste, she also delivered TESOL masterclasses in China and Thailand on behalf of the University. Smaragda also taught in the law pre-sessional course at the University of Essex and the law in-sessional course at Middlesex University in London.

Smaragda has experience teaching language learning theories and teaching methodologies. She also has experience in teaching English for specific and academic purposes (ESP/EAP) and linguistics (phonetics and phonology, morphology, pragmatics, semantics and syntax). She has also taught dissertation writing skills and qualitative research method skills.
Current Research
Smaragda explores the connection between language teacher cognitions and teaching practices. She investigates teachers' identities, feelings of self-efficacy, confidence and emotions to see how these impact on their teaching practice. She is currently examining the BALEAP TEAP framework, looking at what it offers in terms of highlighting key knowledge for effective teaching practice in comparison with other frameworks, and how it can be developed further. Smaragda also has an interest in teaching legal English which was the focus of her PhD research. Other areas of interest include language teacher psychology, development and teacher training.
