Biography

Sophie was previously an English teacher and Head of English in secondary schools for young people with special educational needs and disabilities. Having gained her first degree as Lancaster University in English Literature and Creative Writing, she then completed her PGCE and MA at the University of Nottingham. She engages in research which champions the voices of young people and practitioners and challenges barriers to inclusivity across the education system.

Teaching Summary

Sophie teaches on the Special and Inclusive Education MA, and delivers a guest lecture on the secondary PGCE on developing inclusive behaviour support practices.

Research Summary

Sophie's research interests include:

  • The influence of policy, privatisation, and the academy agenda on inclusion
  • Inclusive behaviour support practices
  • Inclusive pedagogy and practice
  • The theoretical application of Pierre Bourdieu's work in educational research
