The School of Education currently offers seven PGCE courses, one at primary level and six subject-specific courses that will enable you to teach at secondary level.

Primary teaching

If you are interested in teaching at primary level, any of our degree courses are accepted as part of the entry requirements to the PGCE course.

Secondary teaching

To be a secondary teacher it is important to have the required level of subject knowledge in the subject you wish to teach. Therefore, we would look at the relevance of your degree alongside other qualifications (such as A Level) in your proposed teaching subject.

The main purpose of the PGCE course is to support you to become a great teacher in your chosen subject. Therefore, it is important that you have a good level of subject knowledge prior to joining the course. However, there are many opportunities for you to enhance and deepen your subject knowledge further during the course.

We offer the following PGCE courses at secondary level:

  • English
  • Geography
  • History
  • Mathematics
  • Modern Languages
  • Science (focussing on biology, chemistry or physics)

Below you will find a list of University of Nottingham undergraduate degree courses that are accepted or considered as part of the entry requirements for a subject-specific PGCE course. Please click on the subject you are interested in teaching.
