BREEAM Consultant at Anderson Green Ltd
I love all the different aspects of building construction that I get to deal with and experience in my day-to-day. BREEAM consulting encompasses a lot of different sustainability topics, and it includes reviewing: project management, building services design, ecological mitigation/improvements, pollution prevention and more.
What did you do when you graduated?
I joined Anderson Green Ltd as a BREEAM Assistant and after seven months in this role, I was promoted to BREEAM Consultant. BREEAM consulting is an assessing and certifying system used for evaluating the sustainability rating of buildings. I also became a Certified Passive House Consultant, which helped solidify my understanding of building functions/operations. That built on the information I learnt during my Masters.
What's your favourite thing about your job?

BREEAM consulting encompasses a lot of different sustainability topics, and it includes reviewing: project management, building services design, ecological mitigation/improvements, pollution prevention and more. I also get to work on a variety of different projects in different sectors - including healthcare, industrial and education - all of which have their own different features and requirements.
What was your favourite thing about your degree?
After doing the Architectural Environment Engineering BEng, the Advanced Building Performance Engineering MSc was the perfect next step. It allowed me to really focus on my interest in sustainability within the built environment. My master's degree zoned in on interesting topics within building performance, but also gave me an understanding of a lot of building services concepts. This focus on different sustainability topics helped me decide what I wanted to do in my career because there are lots of different routes to specialise in within Sustainability Consulting, such as BREEAM, Passivhaus and low carbon energy.
Apart from the BREEAM and Passivhaus modules, I really enjoyed the ‘Research and Professional Skills, Tools and Methods’ module. It really helped break down writing the task of our dissertation and gave me writing skills that I still use today.
What did you enjoy about your social time here?
When you first visit University Park campus, you realise just how much green space there is and how beautiful the buildings are. It's such a nice campus to walk around and explore. When I started at university, I got a little “City guide for students” booklet which outlined just how much there is to do in Nottingham, and it gave some tips on where to get started. Within the city centre, there are an unbelievable amount of lovely small independent cafes, coffee shops, restaurants, clothing shops and nightlife.
