Urban Design: Enhancing the City

Tracking adventures

We are a passionate, international studio from varying backgrounds who share the values of enhancing the city. Linking Chatham waters and Gillingham station is the challenge we faced. My design concept came from the role that this site plays in the city. A section of railway that has been abandoned for 10 years and is still a sloping site inside, and the public is very curious about it. Why not design it as an adventure on the track?

I wanted to start a new journey on this abandoned section of the railway. In the post-COVID-19 era, the project is a mixed community with a work-life balance. And we provide affordable housing and homeless shelter and re-employment opportunities for the unemployed in this mixed community. I use bridges of different scales to connect the community life on both sides. A cable car line connects our site to the opposite side of the sea, making it a complete fantasy tour of the city.

Student Biography

I am Xiao Han. I’m a postgraduate student from Shenzhen University. My hometown is in Shanxi, China where there are many ancient buildings. I have always been passionate about cities,  people and the challenges we face as a society. This studio gave me another opportunity to practice and learn a lot in the process. Thanks to our studio leader Dr Amy Tang and studio tutors Ahmed Ehab Abdelsalam and Anran Chen for their help.
