The Guild of the Unfinished will be a creative guild sat beneath Nottingham Castle on the old People’s College site. In line with the ethos of Unit 1A the project sought to build upon qualities found within the existing architectures, catalysing the rebirth of the old People’s College, that has long stood neglected and forgotten, back to being the ‘building for the people’ that it once was. Including an extension of the newly pedestrianised Colin Street, the proposal sews the site into the growing entrepreneurial and educational reinvention occurring across Nottingham’s Southgate (proposed in Project 1).
The creative guild aims to reignite Nottingham as a hotspot for craft and bespoke manufacture. It will offer varied spaces for making, designing, learning, business, the running of the guild and exhibition. A network of arcades, alleyways and public squares encourages movement around the site, displaying all stages of the creative process, celebrating this more than final outcomes themselves.
Student Biography Looking back at the last three years of balancing the part 1 course, increasing water polo training and much more, it really has been fun, certainly challenging at times, but undeniably rewarding. Across the Part 1 course I have really enjoyed the opportunity to experiment and develop a range of techniques, most notably I have loved the opportunity to develop hand drawn work. Where architectural approach is concerned, working with the opportunities and challenges posed by existing architectures has been a particular highlight and something I want to continue pursuing.
