Urban Design: Enhancing the City

Broadmarsh and Doha TOD

We are a passionate, international studio from varying backgrounds who share the values of enhancing the city. For the first semester, two urban design projects became the starting point for our in-depth study of urban design.

The first project: Broardmarsh allowed us to learn about the importance of the connection between the site and its surroundings in urban design. The design concept of a human perspective connects the landscape of the main street of the site with Nottingham Castle on the west and the church on the east, creating clear paths for visitors.

The second project, Doha TOD, considers the impact of the climate and cultural history of the different regions on the site and its surroundings. The buildings and streets with a strong Middle Eastern Islamic culture were an area that could be explored in-depth in this design, and I also learned a lot about urban design knowledge in different cultures.

Student Biography

Hi, I’m Xiaoya Liu. I am very passionate about planning and design, and although there are many difficulties along the way, I never give up. Every time I complete a design, I am filled with a sense of achievement, learning new things and challenging different approaches to design projects in a self-challenging way time and time again.
